My motherboard supports a Via Southbridge SATA Raid
Controller, and a Promise FastTrak 378 SATA Raid
Controller. When I installed Windows XP, I needed to
press F6 to specify drivers for the RAID controller I was
using because Windows XP doesn't have native support for
SATA controllers. When I installed Windows, I had my hard
drive hooked up to the Via Controller. I set everything
up and it works. I want to change to the Promise
Controller but I am having some problems doing it. I went
into my BIOS and enabled the Promise Controller, set up
my array in the Promise BIOS, but when I reach the part
where Windows should normally startup, it my computer
just restarts because Windows doesn't have the right
drivers for the FastTrak Controller. I can't install the
drivers in Windows because I don't have any hard drives
connected to this Controller, so Windows won't recognize
it. I am assuming that I need to place the drivers
somewhere in the Windows folder manually. If so, where
should I put them? If not, how can I accomplish this?
