Switching H/D

I installed a new H/D as a slave, but my old one is still being used as the
primary. I would like to take out my old H/D & make the new one the primary
(only H/D) after transferring all data to the new one, but I can't remember
the program that comes with Win XP Home that will allow me to pick all, or
part of the old drive to transfer. I found it once, but now that I want to
use it, I'm stumped.
I guess I need to transfer absolutely everything from the old H/D to the new
one since I am not having any problems whatsoever.

Any help with the name of the program and how to access it would be greatly
appreciated.

Win XP Home SP2
2 H/D ( old=40 GB, new=80 GB)
1.2 GB RAM
CD-ROM & DVD

Many new hard drives have an utility that let you copy the old hard drive to
the new hard drive. Read in the new hard manual on how to do this.

You're speaking about Drive Cloning software. Windows XP has no
native software to accomplish that. BootItNG (Bing), Partition Magic
and other 3rd party disk management tools will do it.
Depending on how you obtained the drive (Retail, OEM) there should
have been a disk included to do this type of operation. The disk CD or
Floppy is bootable. You do the Disk-to-Disk copy operation, change
the jumper on the new drive to Master and replace the older drive on
the IDE ribbon cable.
The software usually has one or more "Confirmation" screens to make
sure you are correct in picking Source & Destination drives. If done
incorrectly, you could end up with two blank drives.

The new drive is a Maxtor and did not have a floppy with the transfer
program in the box. I e-mailed Maxtor tech support and they said I could
d/l the program, but I can't get it to run at all.
Maybe my only other choice is to buy a program to transfer everything to the
new drive?

Thank you! I'll go there and do as you suggest. I found the disk
management utility in Win XP Home & that was what I was referring to
earlier, but I'm not sure how to use it. I'll do as you suggest first.
I appreciate your time & help.
I couldn't find anything in Google, nor any bookmarked site I have and was
getting a little anxious about trying anything without feeling sure of
myself.

The Disk Management software in XP only allows you to manage the hard drives
and not allow you to clone the hard drive.

You do know that you need to copy the program to a floppy, and
then boot from the floppy?
