Switching from serial to ps2 mouse

I installed XP home with a serial mouse connected. It works fine. I would like to switch to a ps2 mouse. I thought that by plugging it in and rebooting, the os would find the new device, but it doesn't. Do I need to uninstall my serial mouse before plugging in the ps2 mouse and rebooting? Or what? I don't have any driver software. Would it be included in XP Home? The mouse is a basic 3 button Logitech. Any help is much appreciated

Did you unplug the serial mouse before rebooting? You can't have two mice.
Is the PS2 mouse port enabled in your system BIOS?
You shouldn't need a special driver for it for Windows.

Make sure you never plug in or unplug a PS/2 device with power on. Doing
so can damage the PS/2 port.

No kidding! I've never been able to have more than one at once - one
disables the other or neither works...

It seems like it's my week to be wrong. <eats hat>

Interesting. I've had trouble in Win9x using multiple mice without using
something like Logitech Mouseware utility, but in 2K/XP never had a
problem with it.

Being "wrong" is subjective, I suppose. I know I sometimes tend to
"correct" things or ammend to things others write here, but I don't
consider them to be wrong (most of the time anyway) rather, merely
without additional information. Don't eat your hat.

No offense taken in the slightest, and re hat, well, it's too late. No harm
done; I wanted to buy a new Easter bonnet and needed more fiber in my diet
anyway. ;-)

I did unplug the serial mouse before trying the ps2 mouse, but I didn't know that there was a BIOS setting. I changed bIOS and after rebooting a second time, the ps2 mouse was detected

Thanks for your help

I forget that you're female - everytime I read your name "wench" somehow
becomes "wrench" in my mind :)

I haven't seen an Easter bonnet in a while either. Do people still wear
them for Easter?

I hope you find a most beautiful Easter bonnet, then!
