When I installed OpenOffice I selected for it to open Word, Excel &
Publisher files (I still have MSOffice apps installed until I've decided).
Now when I double click one of the documents originally created by one of
MSOffice apps, it tries to launch the equivalent OpenOffice
app.unsuccessfully, and it displays an OO error message. How can I revert
back, or even better, how can I toggle between them deciding which one
shpould try to open the file?
thanks

What OS are you using?

I believe (been awhile since I've played on 98) you can hold down the shift
key and right click on the file and the menu will have an "open with"
selection, scrole to the program you want to open it with.

It is much easier to simply open either Word or OO and then browse to the
file you want to open instead. Either way will work.
