SWAP file not behaving?

J

JRS

Windows XP, with SP2 and all latest updates...

I have 1 gig of RAM, so don't want or need the large default 1.5 gig swap
file.

I set it for 512 and reboot, but it still shows as 1.5 gigs. I can run
with no swap file, but when I reset it again for 512, or 512 with a max
size of 768, it still comes up as 1536 (1.5 gigs) on next reboot....

What's up with that?

If you're not having a problem ( you don't specify one ),
why not just go on with your life and leave the swap file
alone . . . ?

Windows, in most cases, will handle your swap file just
fine without any intervention.

Good Luck !

Hi

Have you clicked on the 'Set' button before rebooting?

Solved it.

Did a couple more hours of googling and found out it was caused by
Symantec Anti virus, some sorta bug I guess. Setting SAV to load after
Windows loads resolves the issue..

See my page www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm Probably you have set it on
a different drive (or didn't click Set). If on a different drive you
need a notional one left on C: (say 2/50 MB) against emergencies, or the
system sulks
