Configuration:
Windows 2000
256 MB RAM
P3 600MHz
ATI Wondow Video Card
Aopen Modem
When Window 2000 was installed, I used a LogicTech
wireless KB and Mouse
Now I use a wired ps2 KB and mouse

There is no problem if I stay offline from the Internet.

When I connect to the internet and after using it for a
few minutes, the following message occurs:

Svchost.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error
log is being generated.

Impact:
Cut and paste fails within Word
Certain links cannot be accessed
Cannot open up an Excel Spreadsheet file.

Anybody know the cause of the problem?

I had this trouble with ATI video drivers. SVCHOST is the
service host engine for W2K. The driver that SVCHOST is
trying to load is not working properly. Go into the
registry and remove the ATI entries in the Run section and
this trouble will clear. If you must have ATI driver
software installed, try getting the most recent version
from ATI website.

I had this problem too.
Similar symptoms.

I attributed it to a virus, perhaps the blaster, but I never
determined exactly what was going on as I had had some
h/w problems and also suspected corrput files. I any case,
since the PC was due for a reinstallation, I didn't invest
more time in resolving the issue and reinstalled Windows.

If you believe that it could be a virus, use Google with
the phrase svchost vius.
