Hi,

1. Lately I've been noticing that my system is running several copies of
SvcHost.exe, e.g. right now it is running 6 copies, 3 under UserName SYSTEM,
2 under NETWORK SERVICE and one under LOCAL SERVICE. Is this normal?

2. Also, often times, one or more of these processes will hog the CPU at
60-80% usage. Is this normal?

3. If either or both 1 and 2 are not normal, what would be the course of
action?

4. Finally, I also noticed the process SqlServr running. Now I do have SQL
Server installed, but this process remains running even if I completely shut
it down via SQL Server Manager. Is it used for any other purpose inside
Windows, like running part of the file system?

I'm running WinXP SP2, Office 2003 and IE 6.0.2900.2180. I'm also running
Zone Alarm Pro 6.1.737 and Norton AntiVirus 2005.

Thank you for any help you can lend me.

sysinternals.com has a free utility called 'ProcessExplorer' you can
download. With it you can look 'inside' each svchost.exe and see which
service(s) it is hosting.
