svchost.exe

I'm using Adaware and when I open the Monitor and mouse
to the processes running it shows 45 objects, one of them
svchost.exe, which is listed (6) times, shouldn't that be
only one? And how do I eliminate the other five when in
MSCONFIG I do not even see it?

No, it is normal to have multiple copies of svchost.exe running. If you
are concerned about infection, make sure that you have a full-featured
current version (not earlier than 2003) antivirus installed using
updated definitions. Here is a link where you can learn about services
in XP:

Svchost.exe is not a virus. It is a legitimate Microsoft file. It
replicates itself, and spreads itself all over your machine ...
hey, wait a minute!
