I've reformatted and installed Windows XP SP2 (SP2 pre-integrated into
Windows XP from our MSDN universal subscription).
Occassionally, an instance of svchost.exe starts using a lot of CPU (90%+).
In addition, it has 800+ open handles. When this instance of svchost.exe
acts like this, it is impossible to start and use another application - not
even Task Manager.
My current workaround is to start Task Manager asap after rebooting and
logging in so that I can kill the rogue instance of svchost.exe.
Any ideas why svchost.exe runs like this under SP2?
What is the fix?
