My PC is running real slow and when I pull up Task
Manager I notice that something called svchost.exe is
running at 99%. I tried deleting the thing and I got an
error that shuts my PC down. Any ideas?

Hi,
I didn't find msblast anywhere. I did recently have
issues with my PC where I had to reinstall XP and
redownload Intel Application Accelerator. You think any
of this could've caused a problem with svchost.exe?

SVChost is the program that runs a whole slew of essential services on
behalf of the system. All you can say is that one such service is
running wild.. Go to Control Panel - Admin Tools - Services and go down
the list of ones that are 'Started' and in each case try the effect of
clicking the 'Stop' on the left. If it has no effect, start that one
again and move on. You must be careful to look at what things are for,
and try to avoid things that are evidently essential.

My top candidates for running high CPU would be
Background INtelligent Transfer
(this is used by Autoupdate, but with it off, manual updates work fine)
Routing and Remote access

Universal Plug and Play
(needed if you have a router that uses it, but not otherwise - if you
disable it, disable SSDP Discovery as well)

QoS

If you find the one causing it, double click and set the Startup type as
Manual - it will only then start up again if something really needs it

Hi!
You should not end the svchost.exe process as it is needed by the operating
system and that is what is causing you to get an error. Look in the running
processes list for msblast.exe instead. Also search your harddrive for that
file as well. The SVChost routine is used by non executable DLL files to
become executable by acting as a host for their execution. You might like
