svchost.exe growing in size

I have XP for Home and recently, I have been getting a
message saying my system is running low on memory. I
looked under processes running in Task Manager and notice
that svchost.exe LOCAL continues to grow.

What is a solution for this? Please advice.

I have run McAfee Anti Virus and my computer comes up
clean with data files from last month.

Try and run the "Removal Tools" specifically for Blaster
virus. .Not just the updated files. IF indeed blaster it
may have disabled your av program

I had carried out the instructions to get rid of the
Blaster virus when it arose. So, that may not be the
issue.
