svchost.exe error

I am getting an svchost.exe error on a regular basis. The
precipitating event seems to be the following:
COM+ Event System detected bad return code - HRESULT was
8007006BF from line 42 of \eventsystemobj.cpp - Contact
Microsoft Product Support Services. MS says it's the
computer vendor's problem - of course they disagree. Anyone
have any ideas. I strongly suspect this is a registry
problem. Can't find anything in the KB about it.

Probably a virus-have you run Windows updates and got an up to date virus
scanner?

Virus was my first thought also. Have McAfee running
continuously; also used several online virus checks and
nothing shows up.

I think I've isolated it to the modem. Reinstalled all the
drivers, even though the Device Manager says they're good,
and am keeping my fingers crossed. (Whoever said hope was
not a strategy never used Windows!)
