SVCHOST.EXE consuming 100% cpu

Something like once a week, SVCHOST.EXE starts consuming 100% of my CPU
time. My laptop runs a Win2000 Professional, Version 5.0.2195 Service
Pack 4 Build 2195.

Running 'tlist -s' shows that the service consuming time is RpcSs.
I'm starting to think that I'm experiencing some virus exploiting RPC
vulnerability, probably infected my laptop before applying SP4 and
security updates, but my Symante Antivirus tells me that anything is
fine (virus definition updated at 9/24/2003).

I was thinking about something like W32.Welchia.Worm

Any idea how to discover what happens and if there is some kind of
infection going on?

Cheers,
GB

You should try asking in a Windows newsgroup, this is a Microsoft Access (a
