P4 CPU, 1 GB RAM, Win XP Home SP2, IE6, OE6

There are five instances of svchost in my task manager list.
Is this legit? If not, what do I do about the situation? TIA.

Hello,

That is pefectly normal. Each SVCHOST can host multiple services under each
instance. Windows (or applications) can group services this way so that if
one crashes, it does not crash all services. In addition, consolidating
services to run under one process allows Windows to conserve on resources.

Spyware/Adware/Malware can be run as services through the SVCHOST.

5 is in the upper case of "normal".
