SVCHOST.EXE and Task Manager

S

Sheldon Williams

When I open Windows Task Manager I see that svchost.exe
is taking up all my CPU resources. When I end that
process, my computer shuts down. How can I kill this
process and keep my pc up and running?

svchost.exe is part of the Windows XP operating system. Therefore, when you
shut it down, your computer shuts down.

May I humbly suggest that before you try a manouver like this again, that
you spend some time learning about what you are doing. You seem like someone
who is interested in some of the nitty-gritty of how XP works - in that case
you will find your research quite interesting.

Are you running Norton Anti-Virus? If so, you might want
to look at disabling its realtime scan on Svchost.exe or
uninstall it first, to see if that clears it. I ran into
something similar, only with winlogon.exe running and
using all my resources because of the real time scan.
