Wondering if I am doing something wrong here.

I configured SUS, dowloaded the updates to the server, set up a group policy
to push them down, etc. 90% of the workstations are Win2K, others are Win
XP. What I am wanting that I don't see is the option to install the updates
but not require the machine to reboot. I would like to install as much as
possible at once and if it needs a reboot, wait for the normal shut down and
restart by the user the next morning.

We don't leave our machines on 24/7 so I can't do this in the middle of the
night, and currently the users get all worked up when they receive the
message saying the machine will be rebooted in 5 minutes. Anyone have any
suggestions?

Set GPO to download and schedule install
Set Scheduled install time to be 03:00
Set reschedule time to be 1 minute

The if a machine is left on overnight, it will get applied
at 03:00, if the machine is not left on then the update is
applied at startup time (+1 minute) which should not leave
the user too much time to get engrossed in their work.
(Most will not have even opened their eMail clients by
then!)

Also use the option 'No auto-restart for scheduled
Automatic Updates installation'. This way the user decides
when to restart the computer, instead of the 5 minute
countdown. Very frustrating if you come back from coffee
break and the machine restarted and your Word document
wasn't saved yet.
