Other then phil who posted the same problem on Oct 29, I have not seen any
reference to the issue
of the send/receive window's behavior. It happens on every version of Vista
that I have seen,
and that is once the send/receive window is forced to display details due to
an error or such,
it is no longer possible to open windows mail ,hit send/receive and not have
the window display
details. In outlook express, the behavior of the send/receive window was
such that it would
remain in it's last state when you open outlook express and check mail.
I.E. If you hide details
before closing outlook express, details will be hidden the next time you
opened outlook express.
If you left details open when you close outlook express, details would
remain open next time you open
outlook express.
I take it no one else is bothered by this small anoyance?

Many of us have moved on to the newer Windows Live Mail.
IMO, Windows Mail could become an orphan.

Note that there is a pushpin in the lower right corner of that screen.
Have you played with that pushpin? It should alter the behavior.

Incidentally, why are the lines in your post wrapping so strangely?

Gary,
Pinning does not have any effect over the problem, but good of you to point
that out as a
suggestion. As far as the strage wrapping on the post, perhaps another
bug? *shrug*

Please don't press Enter except at the end of a paragraph.

This is your answer and I think what Gary VanderMolen is referring to:
In Windows Mail after you "Send and Receive All", for about 5 seconds there
is a message in the lower right corner of the main window. For example "No
New Messages" will be shown there if there are no messages. While this
message is showing just double-click right on the text area of the message.
It will pull up the send/receive window and it wil stay there. You can then
click the Details button.
