Suppress irritating balloon in system tray

Hi all

On one XP machine that I use, every time I print a document to a network
printer (it doesn't matter which printer), a large and intrusive balloon
pops up from the system tray in the bottom right corner advising me that I
have sent the document to the printer (which I know). I can remove the
balloon by clicking on it, but it is irritating having to do so, especially
if the print command effectively sends several separate print jobs and I
have to click on the balloon multiple times to get rid of it completely. If
I do not click on it it does disappear eventually (but only after an
unacceptably long delay), and while it is present it obscures part of the
document to which I require access.

If anyone out there is familiar with this effect, is there any way of
disabling this balloon permanently? I use other XP machines that do not
display this phenomenon.

Thanks

Jeri,

Go to Start and click on Printers and Faxes.
In Printers and Faxes click on File on the toolbar at the top
of the window.
Select Server Properties from the menu.
In Server Properties, click on the Advanced tab.
Remove the check mark from the box next to "Show informational
notifications for local printers".
Click OK.
Close Printers and Faxes.

Here's an article with more info:
