Hello

After i had already installed sp2 and got all the updates i read that i
was supposed to have uninstalled my support tools that i had got off my sp1a
xp cd-rom before i installed sp2. Well can i go ahead and uninstall the old

What "support tools"? There aren't any support tools included in SP2.
Please explain exactly what "support tools" you mean and where you heard
this.

Yes. Remove the earlier version of Windows XP Support tools and then install the latest version.

Thanks Ramesh. All these years of installing SP2 and I had no idea there
were any support tools in it! You are awesome as always.

Hi Malke,

You're welcome! I may have learnt about it via a link/question in this newsgroup earlier or perhaps from the Microsoft download notications email I received, otherwise I would have had no idea either :)

Huh! Learn something new every day they say. Going back to bed now!

To resolve this issue if you already installed Windows XP SP2 Support Tools,
run the Setup program for Windows XP SP2 Support Tools again. On the Setup
options page of the Windows Support Tools Setup Wizard, click Add/Remove,
click Next, and then follow the remaining instructions that are displayed on
the screen to reinstall the Windows XP SP2 Support Tools. The Iadstools.doc,
Iadstools.dll, and Replmon.exe files are installed to the Support Tools
folder.

I really doubt this affects many people, but ... it's sure new to me!

Thanks for the edu-muck-ation.
