Change the options - there is a button called Options in Help's toolbar,
then Settings on the menu.

Microsoft don't understand user interfaces. So they think they are acting
cool with bugs like this.

Where are they? If a person is not hooked up to the Internet can't they
have any help files in Vista? Or is something lacking in my version?
Everytime I try to get help it tries to go on line.

Thanks,
Nancy

The new help system checks for updated help info. There are local help files
and if you don't want help and support to check for newer information online
open Help and Support, select Settings from the Options drop down menu,
uncheck "Include Windows Online Help and Support when you search for help"

Thanks ... done! I appreciate your help.

Thanks. I wonder why they didn't just give you what they have on the
computer if you aren't on line. I would like to have it both ways. <LOL>
Check for new help data but allow me to use help without going online if I
prefer.

The improved help system looks to the internet so that you can have the
latest information presented to you when changes take place. If you don't
want the latest and greatest (I don't know why you wouldn't) you can turn it
off as the others have stated.

Vista is in a very fluid state right now. Many help files are liable to
change as patches are released that may change the way something works. I
would always allow the computer to look for help updates to match the system
changes.

Because help doesn't work. Are you an idiot. Where are the UI guidelines
that says people want to look at blank windows (for longer than a couple of
hundred milliseconds) or be bombarded by useless dialog boxes.

I am normally offline as MS feels quite free at spending my money. If I'm
offline it can't spend my money.

Help doesn't work?

There are many thousands who will disagree with you .

Get your watch out and time the two states. Remember humans only tolerate
delays in the milliseconds. Now tell me if it meets specs.

Remember, it is only the machine - human interaction that matters.

So it takes longer. Of course it does, especially if some files are being
updated with new information. That's the whole concept.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work.

Yes it does. Choose Help and there is no help. Why would you wait when you
know this is a bug by desugn.
