summing

I have a table with names and amount spent, and I am attempting to get a
total for the money spent. However, some of the names are repeated. Is
there some way I can sort out the repeats?

Data >Filter > Advanced Filter > select Copy to another location > List
range: your data range > Copy to: select a blank cell > tick on Unique
records only

I tried that, and it didn't work it said that "The extract range has a
missing or illegal field name." What next?
