Summary Slide icon becomes unavailable

This is what I did
1. I opened the PowerPoint 2000 presentation
2. Selected View>Slide Sorte
3. Began selecting the slides to put on the Summary Slide, however, after selecting 4 or 5 slides, the Summary Slide icon becomes unavailable.

PowerPoint did setup a Summary Slide for a few slides. I just can't get it to work on enough slides

Does anyone know why?

The Summary slide is a little bit picky about which slides it picks up. If
it runs into a slide that doesn't have a title, it stops (or in your case,
becomes unavailable). Same if the title has a comma in it. I think there was
one other punctuation piece that did it, but don't remember.

If you want to use summary, but don't want to have titles show on the
slides, put the title placeholder back, put in your title, then drag the
placeholder off the visible part of the slide.

Hey Kel,

PowerPoint's native Summary slide is finicky as Kathryn said.

I wrote an add-in that has a similar function that works in PowerPoint 2000.
The add-in is available at:
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00548.htm

Install and activate the add-in. Open the presentation. Change to the
slide sorter view and select all the slides you want to be included in the
summary. Click the Summary Slide icon on the special toolbar and a linked
summary slide will be created. If one of the slides does not have a title
placeholder (PowerPoint's summary slide function becomes unavailable because
of this) my add-in will simply substitute the slide number. You will need
to reformat the resultant summary slide to make it pretty.

Hey B! Does this mean that the thing is now ready for general use and we can
all add it to our book of tricks? If so, can you nudge Mr. R to add it to
the front page of the FAQ?

Mr. R. has been very nice about posting it on the site. The link is active,
but not yet incorporated into the general index..
