I'm trying to compare sales from 2007 vs 2008 with a percentage change. I'm
really trying to get the 2007 monthly sales numbers to update automatically
according to the date in 2008. In May, I want the weekly sales for 2007, to
update according to the numbers I put in for 2008 to have an accurate weekly
comparison. Right now, I just have all the month totals for 2007, and zeros
for the future months of 2008. Any ideas?

I'm very confused!!
"I'm really trying to get the 2007 monthly sales numbers to update
automatically
according to the date in 2008" Surely the 2007 monthly sales numbers are
what they are - How can 2008 change last year's sales numbers?
"In May, I want the weekly sales for 2007, to update according to the
numbers I put in for 2008" - again bearing in mind days of the week will be
two days adrift (Mon 7th May 2007 and Mon 5th May 2008) explain how you want
last year's figures to update!
"I just have all the month totals for 2007, and zeros for the future months
of 2008"
What do you want instead of zeros for the future? (It would be nice if Excel
could forcast the future)

I have all of the information for 2007 sales. I want some function or way
to have 2007 sales update automatically in my spreadsheet according to the
date. In May for example, I want the 2007 weekly sales to update to the
monthly total according to the date. In order to compare apples to apples I
can't have all of May's 2007 numbers when it's only May 15. Do you have any
ideas or suggestions for a function that will allow the sales to update
automatically according to the date?

Is your 2007 data actually shown in weeks? It sounds like you only
have months, which would be difficult to divide into weeks accurately.
If it is shown in weeks, say in 52 columns with a good label column,
you could do a vlookup (or similar) to the week or a combo formula to
sum them for YTD.

Might help to simply number your 2008 data. Like the first column or
row has 1, 2, 3, etc. to label the weeks. You can use that number to
do the lookup a little easier than creating an extra-long formula to
do it. But either way is possible.

But you should probably describe your data a bit to get more specific
help.
