You can, but SUMPRODUCT or an array formula would give
you more flexibility. Nevertheless, here's an example:

=SUM(SUMIF(A:A,{"a","b","c"},B:B))

You can ... If you want to ... in conjunction with Sum().

Usually, other functions better fit the bill for multi-criteria situations.

=SUM(SUMIF(A1:A20,{"A","B"},B1:B20))
