Suggestion for a new add on for transposing data tables

Dear Sir

Thank you for the Sub Total Table Add On. Indeed it helps the user to get
the subtotal data quickly without having to enter complicated formulas.

Currently, if the user need to rearrange the layout of the data table to
meet his requirement, he still need to enter complicated formulas to get it.
At present the Paste Special > Transpose Data function does not rearrange
the data in the manner as illustrated below :

Original Table
Month
Code 1 2 3 4
5110 xxx
5111
5112
5113
5114

Transposed Table
Code Month Amount
5110 1 xxx
5110 2 xxx
5110 3
5110 4
5111 1
5111 2
5111 3
5111 4
5112 1

I am not very certain if the Pivot Table can be used for this task.

In view of that, I would like to suggest for another Add On for the
Excel 2002-7 users to carry out the task of rearranging table. In the working
environment today, we need to be able to change the layout of the data table
for many reasons such as presentation, input to another system, data analysis
etc.

It would be great if MS Team could put in an in-depth study to develop
this new functionality.

Best Regards

Low

Thanks

Low

For small tables can simply cut and paste. For large tables, the best bet is
to put the data into Access for SQL Express and write a query to transform it
into what you want. Plenty of examples of that in the SQL Server programming
newsgroup.

However, if you ENTER the data into Excel in the maner you displayed then
you have handcuffed yourself. Far better to have a tall, skinny table that
you pivot into analysis or presentation form than to enter your data in a
rectangular table that inhibits both analysis and presentation

Dear Duke,

I respect your opinion and the method of tacking the problem.

But personally I feel; that there is a great need to get things done in a
simpler and smart manner. This could elimate human errors during manual
keybpard operations.

A well designed Add On such as Subtotal Table could make the user more
confidence when manipulating the table. Also one of the major oblective of
the future worksheet is to make it more user friendly by bypassing
complicated formulas.

That all I need to express my view on this issue.
