Suddenly unable to send email

R

Ross

I use Outlook 2002 and have been using a SBCglobal DSL
email account for almost two years without incident.
Suddenly, while I am able to receive email just fine, I
can no longer send emails through Outlook. I get the
following error message:

"Task 'pop.sbcglobal.net - Sending and Receiving'
reported error (0x800CCC78) : 'Unable to send the
message. Please verify the e-mail address in your account
properties. The server responded: ??0 5.0.0 Access
denied'"

Does anyone know how to correct this? I called SBC and we
triple-checked the outgoing SMTP server information- all
is ok there. I am running XP and always install the new
updates- could this be the issue? HELP!

You might try setting up authentication to your outgoing server, which can
be done on the "Outgoing Server" tab for your account. It looks, though, as
if SBC's server is doing something funny, because the server response ("??0
5.0.0 Access denied") is malformed - the two question marks should be
numbers (like "500" or "550").
