Sudden request for user name and password

I have had Vista for about a month and suddenly I am being asked (through Windows Security box)for user name and password to access e-mails through my server. Even though the correct details have been entered I cannot progress past this point and I am faced with the same request again.

Ive just had the same problem,(im with virgin) and couldnt access my emails
directly, so i had to go to virgin web site and re-set my username and
password with them, i could then access directly and afterwards could also
access via windows.
I hope this has helped and im sorry to go on but i am not much good with
computers just lucky i guess.
All the best.

I had the same problem today. Fixed it by removing the EMail account and then
adding it again. A wizard takes you thru the steps. Just be sure to use the
same settings you had on the old account. After adding the new account I got
the same message from Windows Security to verify the user name and password
one time.

If you are sure you are you are entering the correct username and
password, one possible cause for that error is account corruption.
One thing you should try as a quick fix is to delete that corrupted
mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

If that doesn't fix it, more drastic measures will have to be taken.
Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
