Recently upon starting up my computer, Windows began asking me to activate
Windows w/i three days or...

Well I just found out what the ... was. My system does not have the Windows
label on it which lists my CDKey information. Nor can I get into the system
without activating Windows.

So Im in a spot where a key is needed to continue, but no way of finding out
what my key is or why it quit working.

Not from a store, thats for sure.

What Im thinking happened is that my cdkey was given out to multiple pc's
and now its stopped working on my machine.

So you did not buy your computer from a store. Good for you. I have
several computers none of which were purchased at a store. What I am
wondering about is the origin of your system and its O/S.

For consumer workstations, one key goes to only one machine. It would be
illegal to do otherwise.

It sounds to me like you may need to start over with a new, full version of
Windows XP.

Opus

Try the following:

1. Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode".
2. Go to Start > Run and type: %systemroot%\system32
then press the Enter key.
3. Locate these two files: wpa.dbl and wpa.bak
4. Rename the wpa.dbl file to wpaold.dbl and wpa.bak to wpaold.bak
5. Reboot your computer into Normal mode.

This will force activation on the following boot, but should remove the
message that you are already activated message. Sometimes if these files
get corrupted, they can cause this type of problem.

My computer is asking for me to activate my key, of which I dont have.

Its not saying its already activated, its wanting to be activated.

So your 3 days has already expired?

That does make the problem a lot more complex.

If the system was still bootable into Windows then you could use Magic
Jelly Bean (http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml) to locate
the product key that was used to install your Windows.

If your Windows XP came in a retail package then the product key
should be on the back of the folder that contained the CD. If your
Windows XP is an OEM version then there should have been a label
attached to the Certificate of Authenticity with the Product Key
printed on it.

Good luck
