We've been reading about how bad the SP2 are and haven't heard from the people
that have had success installing it. I have 5 computers. A Dual Laptop amd
400,
an AST 824 amd 400 overdrive, a custom built PC Plus Celeron 533, an HP 734N
2400+, and Compaq Laptop 3015US P4 2.4. All the computers have XP home or
XP pro on it. This is how I did it.

1. Run diskclean to clean out cache, temp folders, recycle bin, and etc...
2. Defragment your hard drive.
3. Make sure all your patches and updates for your programs are current
4. Backup your hard drive
5. Setup your system restore. ( If SP2 crash you can go back to original
settings
without uninstalling sp2)
6. Run Ad-aware and/or SpyBot to get rid of those annoying adds and etc...
7. Run Antivirus program
8. Download SP2
9. Disable Firewall and Antivirus program.
10. Install SP2
11. Disable Microsoft Firewall and restore your aftermarket firewall and
antivirus
program.
12. Test all your programs make sure they work.

Remarks: The microsoft firewall will prevent all connection from reaching
your
computer as well as prevent you from connecting. Make sure you read
everything
pertaining to the Microsoft Firewall. Good luck and enjoy!!!

I don't understand your comments about the Microsoft firewall. I installed
SP2 and had no problems using the Microsoft supplied firewall. My cable
connection works fine and my internal network works quite well also and
nothing had to be changed or tweaked.

abc,

You might be an exception. The Microsoft firewall automatically turns
itself on and
prevent incoming and outgoing connection. It took me a few days but I got it
working as well. I personally use zonealarm and it's much better than the
microsoft
firewall. My comments is pretty straight forward about microsoft firewall.

Everyone I have installed has worked just fine within the local network
without a single tweak!

Hi

Not correct. Windows Firewall does not block outgoing connections,
that means it will not be very intrusive on people and the default
configuration will work fine for most people.
