Success with Backup Combination

Sam

I want to share some success with what appears to be an excellent
combination for a primary full HD imaging backup. I have a Dell Dimension
8200 computer with windows XP Pro, MS Office XP, BoClean, NAV 2003, and
ZAPlus 4 installed. Until a few days ago, I had Drive Image 2002, second
physical HD, and a Plextor CDRW unit being used for my primary backups, and
the combination worked without any difficulty. The restore from both the
CDRs and file images on the second physical HD, worked very well since I had
to accomplish a full restore twice when PerfectDisk messed up my computer so
bad that I could not bootup into windows.

However, I have always been looking to have a faster backup and have only
one or two media disks needed for backups. I installed Z2i Protector
Desktop Edition 2.0 and was able to accomplish a complete primary backup to
the second physical HD in about five minutes! However, the backup to the
Plextor unit was still pretty slow at about thirty minutes (using five
CDRs), and I was not two happy with this situation since the backup is a
"hot" image in windows. Yesterday, I installed the Sony DRU 510A recorder
and was I ever happy with the results. Backup to the Sony unit takes about
twelve minutes and only uses one DVD media (my primary hard drive is about
5.5 gb in size). The Sony unit installation was very easy and I only had to
change the jumpers for the Sony and the CDROM units on the secondary IDE
channel. This program also has an incremental backup feature which should
also be a time saver. I should also note that the Z2i Protector was able to
detect the Sony unit without any difficulty when I booted up using the Z2i
CD program, as if I was going to accomplish a full restore. I completed
almost all of the restore procedures but was able to cancel the restore
procedures before accomplishing an actual restore. The restore dialog
boxes were very good and easy to use, and you even see the HDs listed by
their correct drive letters, with the Sony recorder given the next drive
letter after the last HD letter. Was very impressed. In my opinion, I
think the Z2i Protector is noticeably easier to use than the Drive Image
2002 and I felt very comfortable using Drive Image.

I should hasten to add that I cannot say how well the full restore will work
since I have not had the occasion to use this function yet. However, all
indications appear that I would have success if need be. I hope this
information will be of some help to someone thinking about improving their
backup situation. Sam.

You are entitled to your opinion, but so am I and it appears you have a very
cynical attitude. My information was shared because there were some
newsgroup postings about problems with the new PowerQuest imaging programs.
Some people like yourself apparently don't appreciate easy to use and
reliable backup programs or otherwise you would help promote good backup
programs so that computer owners would have less problems. Hope your day
goes better than your email. Best wishes, Sam.

P.S. I am a private individual who is retired and not working for any
software or computer company. By the way, if "there are easier ways" as you
suppose, why did you not post them and offer a beneficial email instead of
one of no value?
