Select the cell you want to contain the difference, and type this in the
formula box.

= A2 - A1

and hit Enter.

Hi

As you are obviously new to Excel, always try to avoid typing Cell
addresses. The best way it to;

Select the cell for the formula

Type an =

Now use you *mouse pointer* to select the needed cell.

At this point you can push F4 to cycle through Absolute and Relative
Cell References.

Type the required operator, eg - + / * etc

Use your mouse to select the other cell.
