Styles keep updating from template

I have de-selected the option 'Automatically update document styles' in the
Templates and Add-Ins dialog box but this setting doesn't remain and, each
time I close and re-open my document, the styles have reverted back and the
option is checked again. Any solutions please? Thanks.

Note that Word doesn't actually save unless it thinks the document has
changed. After you have cleared the "Automatically update document styles"
option, edit the document, for example by adding and deleting some text;
that should mark the document as modified. Then try saving.
