Styles and formatting

dear all,

window xp pro sp2, office 2003 sp1,

i am editing a large (and growing) document. i am in document map mode
showing up to Level 3 with task pane activated (showing Styles and
Formatting). i made changes to my Heading 2 and Heading 3 styles (via Task
Pane) as follows: right-click on the box containing 'Heading x' -> Modify and
click ok. However what I discovered was that the modification was not apply
throughout the document. What do I need to do to apply the modifications to
the rest of this document so that all Heading 2 and Heading 3 styles and
formatting are the same? Is there a way(s) to do this?

On the other hand, I do not want this modifications to spill over to the
normal template i.e. being used/applied to other documents.

Thanks for your help.

Modifications made to a style in a document apply to all text formatted with
that style. Check the unmodified text with the Reveal Formatting task pane
on. Is there additional or different formatting applied?

dear charles,

thank you for your suggestion. it is word 101 basic lesson - always check
first with reveal codes. in my case, reveal codes and track changes are
always set to be on but i did not check the offending portions for additional
styles or formatting. incidentally, this document had several people
contributing to it, hence the need to be vigilance for additional formatting
creeping in (though having said that, shouldn't the track changes lit up for
any changes, even in styles/formatting?). thanks for your advice.
