HELP! I have so messed up styles and everything to do with them. I am trying
to do a TOC using two levels of styles I have created: “Session†which is 14
pt., centered, bold, red. I want this as my first TOC level. My second TOC
level, “Bullet,†is 12 pt, left aligned, bold and red.

When I insert a table of contents, it either lists only the Session level
one or, sometimes, it lists both levels, but session level 1 is not in 14 pt
and bullet level 2 is not indented under level 1.

I have made all kinds of changes to my style settings (which is probably the
reason I am having trouble.)

I have gone to the Table of Contents Option and number session 1 and bullet 2.
In addition, the Remove Table of Contents option is always grayed out.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong or, better yet, is there a way to
reset all styles to the original formats so I can start over. Or does someone
know of a good resource that I can study?

You are confusing the styles included in the TOC with the styles used by the
TOC. If you want the TOC entries to have the same formatting as the headings
included, you must modify the TOC 1, TOC 2, etc., styles, using the Modify
button (rather than Options). Also, if you will include the TOC level as
part of your style definition (Format | Paragraph: Outline level), then the
styles will be included automatically. Even simpler is to use the built-in
heading styles, modified as desired, instead of creating your own; you can
give them aliases if desired.
