"Style" Problem ??

How do I turn off the part of Word that changes the entire document when all
I try to change is one paragraph? For instance, bold or centering.

Thank you so MUCH! You have saved not only myself, but at least half of my
office. I'm hoping the screams of frustation echoing down the halls will be
reduced to only occasionally!
