Style naming conventions for templates

Normally I modify the Heading 1, Heading 2 etc styles in a template for a
client. But its been suggested that having the initials at the start of the
style name would make it easier to find on the style menu.

That would mean making a brand new style eg OM_Heading1. Any other styles
developed for that template would have the OM_ naming system so they would
all be in the same place on the style menu.

Would that be a good system or is it bad practice not to adapt the built in
styles?

Thanks for that Stefan - the link was excellent.

You spoke about aliases for the heading styles. Do you mean creating a style
'Based on' the Heading style in the style menu - or are you talking about
another way?

Thanks very much for you help on this

In the Modify Style dialog, you can type an "alias" after the style name, so
that it becomes, say, "Heading 1, H1," and Word will display both. I'm not
sure whether you can add the alias before the built-in name (to affect sort
order), but you could try it.

Thanks Suzanne,

Seems like alias only happens after the main name - but it might be useful
still.

thanks again for all your help

Carl
