Okay so I did a mircrosoft update for XP and installed
SP1 and since then I cant search the internt using yahoo
and Google wont load. Brings me to some odd CPanel
screen that says there is no website at this address I
also get this if I try Ask.com or Altavista. Yahoo just
brings me to generic page wont load screen.

Any ideaS?

It could be just a coincidence. Do a system restore to a time before the
update. If this corrects the problem, then you can blame the update.
It also could be the new trojan "virus," QHosts.
This is from an esrlier post:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.qhosts.removal.tool.html

After using the Symantec removal tool, try this:
You can try this.....
Use Windows Explorer to find a file called Hosts. It has
no extension.
Possible locations:
Windows 95/98/Millennium: c:\windows\hosts [/me]
Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
If it does not show up there do a file search for hosts
When you find it, move it to it's proper location for the
operating system that you use as listed above.
Then.....
Once you find it (and relocated it if neccessary) rename
it to hosts.bak
You will need to let windows accept the change, it is safe
to do so.
Now try to connect to Google.
If it fixed the problem you were having, do this:
Open it (the hosts file) up in Notepad, and delete entries
in there that are referring to the (page(s) Google, Yahoo,
etc.) you can't visit. You can delete all the entries if
you wish.
Save in File, close Hosts file, reboot (even if you
probably won't need to) and try again.

Well what you told me about renaming that host file
to .bak worked. But now that I renamed that file do I
still delete all the info in it?

Once again I thank you greatly.

Although my instincts would urge me to delete the .bak file, since the
instructions did not menton deletion, I would just leave it in its new
"harmless" state.
