(I've cross posted this to .....windowsxp.setup too. Don't generally cross
post,
but on reflection this group seems a lot more active than setup. Thanks).
Hi,
I've got a PC that I'm trying to reinstall XP on. It's gets to the part
where it's installing / checking devices (about 37 mins left on the download
clock), then it bombs out with a blue screen of death message. It's
complaining about nothing specific unfortunately, but suggests checking
hardware and removing any recently installed hardware. It's done this 3
times now at the exact same place. I'm not sure how to proceed because
nothing's been done on the hardware for a while now.
I think one of the DVD drives might be faulty, but disabling that in the
BIOS
means the install program won't carry on. I think because the disabled
drive was D: and I was installing off E:, the setup gets confused somehow
(?). Don't really know, but maybe because there's no drive E: any longer
?? Just a thought.
What I'd like to do is just ditch the reinstall, but the setup is now in a
loop. Every PC reboot it tries to go through the setup routine, but that
keeps failing like I say.
q1. Can I abandon this installation, and break the cycle of
rebooting/reinstalling ?
q2. Through F8, I can get to safe mode / fix an installation option.
owever, the fix a windows
option throws you to the C: prompt. What can / should I do from that point
?
Any thoughts, or advice would be very much appreciated folks.
Best regards,
Mike.
