XP Starting Problems
I have recently bought Stronghold 2 Deluxe - the edition produced by Mastertronic. I have two computers networked both now running Windows XP Home SP2. This game would run with no problem on the older computer when it was running Windows 98 SE but not on the other running XP which had all the Microsoft automatic updates installed. I have now installed all updates on both computers having recently acquired an upgrade XP copy for the Win98 Machine. Now that will not run this game either. I have also discovered that the game will run on both computers if XP Home is re-installed with no Microsoft updates. There is clearly a problem with their updates. I have taken this up on their "help" line and submitted innumerable error reports with no satisfactory response. The report I am getting says that there is a problem with the .exe file and it needs to close. I am no techie but reading the error report the main problem area seems to be Kernel32.dll.
I am having exactly the same problem with Civilisation III Complete - also the Mastertronic edition. I have e-mailed Mastertronic about this days ago with no response.
If anyone knows of a fix for this problem I would be most grateful.
