Stripped IDE Cable??

R

Radith

First of all thanks for all the help above. I currently picked up a computer
from the streets and started dissasembling it. And as I'm more interested in
seeing how the technology works rather than actually wanting to build my own
computer I will have a couple of questions coming up. BUT I will try in my
best efforts to help out problems which I am capable of.

So the IDE Cable going from the FDD to the motherboard seems to be stripped.
That's it's not ripped apart. A connection is still true. But There are two
gaps between the individual cables as it's teared.

Common sense prevails that the FDD will not work; But in this crazy world of
technology; Will the FDD still work/Will there be performance issues.

Cheers

It's not an IDE cable if it's going to the FDD.... It's a floppy cable.

A twist in the cable makes the drive A or B, depending on where the cable
is. Also, some cables have missing wires on purpose.

The way you found the cable is the way that it should be.

Why would the cable have missing wires on purpose??

Also the system is picked up from the streets so I'd guess I can't always
persume that the way the inside is layed out was the original layout.

Cheers

FDD cables are always like that, unless you wanna buy round cables. Cheers

Well common sense would dictate that it was layed out such
that it worked, or do you feel someone would take a working
system, spend the time to intentionally misconfigure it
right before throwing it away?

In theory it could happen, but in practice, it doesn't.
