So you are saying that I can really copy songs without paying for
them for services such as launch.yahoo.com and music.msn.com?
Whenever I listen to songs from those sites the "Save As" is
disabled, do you know how to disable the "Save As"?
Have a look at Total Recorder,
http://www.highcriteria.com/.
Also at the products at
http://www.applian.com/, both audio-only and video.
There may be more software with similar functionality, maybe even freeware.
And finally, if a protection scheme should be based on the inner workings of
Windows, then it is useless under MacOS or Linux.
So, Todd, you may change your mind. I have no experience in this field at
all, but I think that I would do something like this:
Keep the original file away from any file server or shared directory. E-mail
it to those that qualify in a password-protected archive (like possible in
the RAR-format of WinRAR) - and provide them with the password. Some scheme
like that.
You may consider making an inferior version of the file available through
some web site. Inferior in a way like: low fidelity, fade-out after a short
time, intermittent noice or silence.
To everybody:
I hope that this article makes you see this matter from two sides. Imagine
how you would feel if you were on the other side of the line. Don't block,
don't rip.
