Strange Virus That AV Wont Recognize

A

AshTray700

i have some kind of a virus on my system that no av program i have tried so
far has recognized (norton, mcaffee, panda (said found alcan.a worm and
cleaned it)) but still not right. i think this infection came from
limewire maybe media files?? it is preventing me from opening comand
prompt by running cmd, it opens and closes. however if i type in cmd.exe i
can get to it. limewire is also starting randomly. the system seems
somewhat a little slow, not all slow but gets in a rut every now and then
and i have to wait like 10 sec for it to unfreeze. something is hiding the
system32 folder from me (i have show hidden files enabled) and it only
shows up when i type its path in directly then i can get in, i cant find
anything obvious in there and the stuff i looked up about alcan had
several files and regestry entries that i do not have on my system, it
appears to me that some jack a$$ has designed a virus to force limewire to
run all the time and to prevent any system functionality that would allow
anybody to remove it manually. i think i may be one of the first few on
this and thats why no av software can recognize it (recently i have
downloaded many divx movies) i didnt think virus code would be effective
in a media file as the file would never get executed and the player would
just not be able to read the file

I stopped reading and moved on at about line five because it was more
trouble to follow than it was worth. Leonard lampooned the guy for his
style because the writer, like so many others today, took the lazy way out.
Is it a mortal sin? No. Will it decrease his chances of getting help in
this fourm? Perhaps. I, for one, gave up after initially wanting to help.

Bottom line, if you want peolpe to help you out, make it is easy as
possible for them to read about and understand your problem.

i have no idea why some idoit would bother to post something that is in no
way helpfull and not even remotely funny. some people should just find
something to do besides being an a$$ to somebody else. i have no need for
caps and paragraph formatting im not typing a paper. if you cannot
understand me maybe you are the fool and not me!

Do you see why? You received no help did you.

That's fine - if English is your first language. We see, again and again in
newsgroups, examples of people struggling to express themselves in a
language which it is plain to suspect is not their native one. If this is
the case here, to mock the guy for it is the moral equivalent of sneering at
someone because they stammer or lisp.

Two possibilities;
(a) A virus which has munged your onboard A/V capabilities.or,
(b) a trojan of some kind.
Two things to try;
1. Run an online virus check
2. Run a good, up to date anti-trojan program.

Let us know what you ran and the results.

I had some trouble recently with a virus which I couldn't get rid of by my
own efforts. After I posted here about my problem, a reply by "David H.
Lipman" sent me in the right direction, downloading extra AV files. He often
contributes and may pick up this thread, too.

I don't think it was meant to be funny but it *was* trying to be helpful.

Believe that if you like but the reasons we use capitalisation, punctuation,
sentences, paragraphs and all those other fripperies you consider
unnecessary, is to make written text readable and understandable. It's
called communication.

It's not a question of not being able to understand you, it's a question of
courtesy. Your original post was hard to read. You want help. Why do you
think that making your post hard to read increases your chances of getting
help? [hint: It doesn't]

Well let's see.
1.He is using a file sharing tool. Who knows what he has been infected
with since he is downloading "media" from unknown sources.GOOD CHOICE!
2.If he would google his symptoms there are many Ideas he could try.
3.Seems to me he got what he deserved by downloading movies instead of
paying for them.

From the rest of your post it's fairly obvious that whatever found Alcan
misidentified it and did an incomplete job.

Obviously, the cleaner you used left the companion to CMD.EXE on your PC, and I
wouldn't be surprised if other applications had a companion just as well.

You have just discovered America! FWIW, this is how worms work. ;-)

Sorry to disappoint you, buy you aren't first.

downloaded many divx movies) i didnt think virus code would be effective

Relax, whatever stung you didn't enter through the Divx downloads.

No, I think I'm right on target. You started talking about morals. The
OP seems to have a good comprehension of the English language but
doesn't want to use any type of grammar which in this case makes the
post hard to read.
