Strange Task Bar Behavior

Hope someone has an idea, this is driving me nuts.

I have multiple programs open, several windows explorer sessions and such -
intermittently, when I click the sessions on the task bar, the wrong program
opens up. If there are more than one instance of sometihing, they are
grouped together but when I click the task bar box, the group pops up but
the screen changes to another app that's running - very frustrating.
Sometimes I have no issues, this condition is intermittent.

Machine is clean, no virus or spyware, this just seems like a bug or setting
somewhere.

Well I really dislike grouping on the Taskbar. Luckily you can turn this
off under the Taskbar Properties, if you think it would help. Other
ideas are AltDesk (virtual desktops) and Aston Shell. With things like
AltDesk, one click to minimize and open another window or group of
windows. Just wonderful! And Aston Shell is a new Windows Desktop that
you just might like. I personally love it too.
