Strange SP2 download behavior

OK, I stopped the original SP2 download via the instructions on the Windows
link. It had stopped last week at 53%. Well, Saturday night the Windows
download started again at 0% and continued until 33%. This morning it stayed
at 33% and then stopped. Of course I have no way of knowing whether this new
attempted Windows download was the SP2 trying all over again, or whether it
was something new. So, will the SP2 keep trying to download ad infinitum
despite my stopping it, or was this new attempted download something new
"post-SP2"?? Since I am ordering the CD for the SP2, and therefore stopped
the SP2, what is going on now, especially with this new attempted download
stopping at 33%??

Now it's downloading again starting at 33%. Nice and slow. It must be the SP2
again. So what are we to do? Just keep stopping the download until Microsoft
stops emailing it and goes on to some other update?

This is ridiculous.........It was at 33% for a while again, as I mentioned,
and now it went off AGAIN. This game it is playing is very frustrating. Isn't
there a way of just skipping over the SP2 for good via the automatic update?!

It appears YOU are no longer in control of your computer - Microsoft is. They have you at a point where you can't stop what they are doing yet they can't complete it either.

Were me - I'd do a quick save of all my important data, format my drive/boot partition and start anew.

Use this tool to disable the downloading of SP2. It will be in effect
until April, 2005.

Automatic Updates and Windows

Thanks, Rock. Before installing the block tool, should I first clean out what
has been downloaded already by going into services.msc and delete the
contents of the dataStore and download folders, and then go back again to
services.msc?

I would say yes. There have been several posts in here by Torgeir
Bakken about terminating the download. You might want to review one of
those.

Thanks. Now as far as the blocking is concerned. Does it stay blocked for SP2
for good while still allowing other possible automatic updates to be
downloaded along the way?

I clicked the icon to execute the SP2 block, and now this afternoon the
Automatic Update is downloading something. It may or may not be SP2 since it
is going a bit faster than the SP2 download but does not allow you to right
click Resume/Pause like before. Anyone know what is going on?!

As I posted, it's blocked until, I believe, April, 2005
