Strange reboot problem

I build a new computer with brand new hardware, except rather than doing a
clean install I copied the file structure from the old hard drive to the new
one(Win XP Home). However, now roughly half the time when I turn it on it
reboots just before it should show the Windows loading logo and goes to the
"you system failed to start up properly" screen. From there it normally works
with start normaly, but sometimes I have to boot into safe mode then restart.
Sometimes, the system start normally though. I've tried chkdsk, disk defrag,
etc. It's a 3.0 GHz HT pentium 4 pro., 1GB Kingston RAM, Saphire 128MB vid.
card and a 80GB HD of some sort. I don't think it's a problem with the make
of HD, as I've tried it with the old one and the problem was still there.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Boot from the XP CD and do a repair install so that Windows can fix the mess
you made when you 'copied the file structure'.

Also, if it's new hardware then did you install the appropriate drivers for
that hardware?
