Strange problem with Vuescan

C

Charlie

I've been using Vuescan for years, and have never had a problem like
this.

Situation: New computer, Athlon 3200 processor, ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe,
512 MB SD 3200 RAM, Win XP Pro, lots of software installed that run
OK....

On trying to install Vuescan, the computer "crashes" and restarts,
just as if I had pressed the reset key. I'm pretty sure this is an
indication of something wrong with the computer, but I have no idea
what it could be.

Vuescan works fine on my laptop computer, which is also Win XP Pro (I
installed it to to see if it would run, since I had been using Vuescan
with my old desktop, which ran Win 98 SE)

I tried copying Vuescan from the folder on the laptop to a folder on
the new desktop, instead of installing it from the downloaded file,
and I get the same crash when I try to run the executable.

If anyone has an idea of why this is happening, I would appreciate
your comments.

Did you install it with Administrator rights?

That will probably not work, because the installation makes/checks 1
entry in the registry.

Try downloading again (maybe the file got corrupted) and install it,
with administrator rights, on the computer you want.

I experienced a similar problem, I disabled all peripherrical till I
found the guilty one. It was my modem (an old one), instaled with
Win-2k driver, but works well in win XP SP-2. I replaced with a new
one and all is ok.
Bonne chance
