Strange Problem with Optical Drives

I hope someone knows the answer to this and that it isnt as bad as I think
it might be.

I have 2 optical drives a CD-ROM and a DVD writer and CD-RW combo, every
once in a while one or the other will become unaccessable for no apparent
reason. It just says that there is no disc in the drive or that it isnt
available, usually rebooting helps or uninstalling the hardware and
reinstalling it. It seems to happen when I have just used one and want to
use the other afterwards.

Am I doing something here or is it just something flukey that I cant fix?

I get the same thing every now and then. It usually behaves normally after a
reboot.
