Strange perfomance with good PC

hi, i upgraded my pc to windows 2k pro from 98, my pc full complete all the
system requiredes, i have P3 500 MHZ, 320 MB RAM, NVIDIA GEFORCE 2 32 MX 400,
Cable internet connection 768 KB per second, Dircetx 9C, motherboard sis 5600
with updates bios, i was told that win 2k will work without any problem but i
get strange perfomance like:
when i minimize something it freezes for second and then contiune, or when i
play songs in Winamp i have croop music, esepecially if i minimize it, that
very weird, someone can help me??? please=(
 
I suspect that DX 9c and that cheap videocard are not getting along too
well. Also, that PC is marginal for "streaming" applications on Windows
2000.
