My CPU usage keep going up from 1% through 36%, 46%, 50% randomly and then
goes back to 1% again. CPU usage keep going up and down this seem to happen
when i hear my harddrive make a whistling sound. I disable my antivirus that
are running and it also happen when computer is not being use. No software
are installed only a clean install Vista and antivirus.

The only solution seem to put the computer to sleep mode by using the power
button on start menu then waking it up this method work. But doing this can
get old and annoying. Has anyone encountered this issue on HP PC?

Why is it, when people run into problems, they want to blame the PC
manufacturer. There is alot of things going on, not sure why you would think
it's because it's an HP machine. I guess it's possible they are doing
something or loaded something special, it just strikes me as funny that's
your first thought

Anyways, It's possible the CPU spikes up and down are due to the Windows
Search and indexer scanning over your hard drive, could be superfetch
loading some items up.

If you are running taskmanger, you can click the Performance tab, and then
click resource monitor. from there expand out your Disk and have it sort so
that reads are listed in highest order. This should tell you what, if
anything is going on with your system

Also, under taskman, you can click on processes and have it sort on CPU
usage and see what program(s) is causing the spike.
