Strange Outlook problem

I am using Outlook 2003 and somehow I turned on a feature that shows the
formatting in an email.

When I get ready and send a new email the page shows the paragraph symbol
and line spacing.

How do I turn this feature off?

It doesn't show once the email has been sent - it is just a pain and I want
to know how to turn it off!
